Are Positives Starting To Dominate? More Good News, Besides the Greek Deal Rate Topic:

Plenty of comments on this Big Picture piece.....

The folks at ISI are suggesting that the economic and policy data is beginning to become overwhelmingly positive. I am less sanguine then they are, and I disagree with a few of the bullet points (#1 especially).

However, it is a pretty long list of things that seem to be improving — or at least not getting worse:

• Housing starting to recover
• Labor market improving
• Credit expansion unfolding
• Low dollar
• Low rates
• Pent-up demand
• US mfg renaissance
• US energy sector booming
• Double-dip fears minimal so far this year
• Inflation receding around the world
• Europe financial strains have eased
• Liquidity is building in the world economy, eg, corporate cash
• There’ve been 83 stimulative policy initiatives announced around
the world over the past 5 months, eg, Indonesia cut rates
• The Fed has rates on hold at zero and is doing Operation Twist
• ECB is scheduled to further expand its balance sheet on Feb 29
by as much as + €1t
• There are no particular problems at the moment such as Japan
disasters, Thailand floods, supply-chain disruptions, gasoline
price spikes, and debt ceiling crises

What do you think? Is the data objectively getting better, or is this merely a selective list of positives?

need more expansion before more collapse.

In 2008 the G20 implemented the greatest global government economic intervention in history...to produce the late 2010 recovery...the bounce...that was marketed as the recovery.

Now all we need is a scapegoat when the collapse comes...

All made possible by capital flight into the US...making it easy for us to run a deficit that is 10% of GDP. 10% of GDP...and we have 2% growth. Think about that....

That said...there is a lot of potential for positive news for a while...

When reality sets in , it will be that much more of a shock.

Then again...this Baltic Dry Index plunge is quite stunning.... The shock could come sooner than we think.

Another data point on the Baltic Dry thing....

Exports fell 0.5 percent from a year earlier to $149.9 billion, while imports were down 15 percent at $122.7 billion, customs data showed Friday. China's politically sensitive global trade surplus tripled compared with a year earlier to $27.3 billion.

The global trade system depends upon the USA...It has to be supported...and as long as the USA is supported...the rest of the world is supported.

Until the top requires the USA to collapse...It's going to be sustained.

The population is not going to embrace the new deal until everything is in place...and you all have to think you got to where you are all by yourselves.

the instant you suspect external manipulation or control...You will resist.

That is the gradual absolute capitalist method.

The violent absolute capitalist method is to stick guns in your face and demand capitulation...

One takes little to no planning...the other takes massive planing.

The chances of successs of the violent method decrease the larger the amount of people you attempt to control...the chances of success of the gradual method increase the longer you take to implement it.

The top is not trying to save any of you...the top is trying to get rid of you all because all supply and demand problems vanish when you do.

Michigan just reported a $452 million dollar surplus.

Please give us healthcare system where the providers get a free market, to bill as much as they can...and the providers, insurers and pharmas are protected from competition.

Bulls will not be tamed by weak profits

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Despite a mediocre earnings season and signs of an overbought market, Wall Street bulls are likely to remain in control this week.

So far in this earnings season, 352 companies in the S&P 500 have reported results, of which only 63 percent have beaten Wall Street estimates. This compares to a beat rate of about 70 percent on average for the past four quarters and would be the lowest since the fourth quarter of 2008.

Usually, strong earnings are associated with stock market rallies and improved investor sentiment. But despite this season's relatively weak results, the S&P is up nearly 7 percent for the year, and the index has posted gains for every single week in 2012, except for a 0.2 percent loss last week.

"The demand for risky assets is strong. There is steady buying in the market, and the money is constantly being put to work," said Brian Lazorishak, portfolio manager at Chase Investment Counsel in Charlottesville, Virginia.

"The market is sort of overlooking the weak 2011 earnings and looking forward to an improved 2012 earnings season ... It's like a green light to investors to get into risky assets."
