Disclaimer: I'm not holding NFLX. But after subscribing a few days ago, Netflix streaming service appears to be a very good deal. It costs eight bucks-a-month after a 30-day free trial.
Many of the more popular films such as Pride and Prejudice and The Brave One are dvd-only (delivered by mail). But many are there at a mouse click. Blade Runner and The Duchess are streamers, for instance. There is a ton of TV-series programming, all of it apparently free of commercials. The many series of Star Trek appear to be dvd-only, but Stargate Universe and Highlander may be streamed from episode 1. If your ISP (mine is wifi) has a hiccup, the Netflix stream remembers you and picks up later on precisely where it left off.
Here's a snippet from Adam Hartung's analysis of Netflix as an investment today at Forbes.com, "Why you should admire, and own, Netflix - the next Apple or Google."
"...The growth of movie (and other video) watching is going to keep exploding – just as the volume of videos on YouTube has exploded. But it will be via new distribution. And nobody today appears close to having the future scenarios, delivery capability and solutions of Netflix. 24×7 Wall Street says Netflix will be one of "The Next 7 American Monopolies." The last time somebody used that kind of language was talking about Microsoft in the 1980s! So, what do you think that makes Netflix worth in 2012, or 2015?"
